What a difference from store eggs, ours have oranger, taller yolks, whites that stay together. You can see and taste the quality. A brown hen; brown in color and brown egg layer. Our hens have the run of the farm, and on most days you will find them in the field doing what chickens do -- hunting for bugs and greens. An Americana, beautiful birds that lay green/blue shelled eggs!

About our Eggs

For a blog entry about how we raise our hens - http://www.localharvest.org/blog/15556/entry/the_hens_are_here_hooray

  • Eggs are ungraded, of various sizes Large-Jumbo, brown shells. Always "awesome on the inside".
  • We feed only ORGANIC CHICKEN FEED. Our farm has been Certified Organic since 2005, but because of rules in egg handling, we cannot call them "certified organic eggs" (See below). Organic feed is the best, with no compromise on "protein sources" -- all vegetable/fish. (our feed looks like real grain feed because it is. See non-organic feed: Some kind of pellets from who knows what)
  • Up to 30% of their diet ends up being our lush grasses & clovers, which means healthier birds & higher Omega3  and lower Omega6, plus other health benefits. See http://www.eatwild.com for more information about the benefits of pasturing.
  • Compare to the "organic free range" and "high omega 3" organic eggs in the store, not the low end industrial type system organic eggs.
  • FRESH EGGS: Can't remember the last time our eggs going out the door were more than one week old.
  • Pastured, not caged. Happy, low stress animals mean for the best tasting food that you can feel good about. Our hens do lay in nests (when they feel like it). They are allowed to roam freely around a large area.
  • No antibiotics/growth hormones/any kind of funny business. Not necessary with our farming methods.
  • Come see how we raise our animals, see how we farm. The more you know about how and why we do what we do, the better you're going to feel about buying and eating food from our farm. Nothing is hidden here ever, because we're proud of our no-compromise philosophy.
  • Are our eggs "certified organic"? there is a requirement that we have a very expensive egg handling license (the facility is the expensive part). The eggs won't be one iota better at that point, either, but will be 100% for our ability to sell in stores and other off-farm outlets. Given the demand for our eggs from folks like you, we're not sure if there's a point to that.
  • I can buy eggs for less than $2/dozen at the store! Yes, yes you can. The birds that laid those eggs, however, were fed some real interesting stuff. Do a simple google of how hens are usually raised. Does that match your values? You might be surprised even the "free roaming" hens, inside a building how not pleasant their conditions are. Taste: ours taste a world better. Decide for yourself if it's important to you to know where your food comes from and how it's raised, and whether you'd rather spend more for higher quality food you can feel good about. Ask why their eggs are so cheap rather than why our eggs are so "expensive".

Test for yourself: Crack open one of our eggs next to one of the store-bought ones; even Organic eggs. What you should see--our yolks stand up higher (fresher), color is a darker orange from the NATURAL effects of eating our grasses & clovers. NOT from feeding supplements designed to give the illusion that the egg is healthier from its color.

By not operating on volume and fractions of a percent margins, we are not tempted to compromise the quality.
  • Do you deserve good food? EVERY DOLLAR YOU SPEND IS A VOTE.

Aren't they beautiful? Inside is the same wonderful egg, but the shells come in so many colors from our varied hens. Even in the winter they can and do go outside! Not "free roaming" on a dirt lot or in a building -- but on fresh succulent healthy green grasses. This is a family farm: Our children can and are involved in many activities, such as eggs.
